How to Choose Your Auto Body Shop With Allstate Insurance

Can Allstate Force You to Use a Good Hands Repair Shop?

No. Allstate operates a preferred repair network — the Good Hands Repair Network — and their adjusters will often recommend it. But California law gives every driver the right to choose any licensed auto body shop for their vehicle. Allstate cannot make their preferred network a condition of coverage, and they must pay the reasonable cost of repairs at whatever licensed shop you select.

Step 1 — File Your Allstate Claim

File as soon as possible after the accident. You can call Allstate at 1-800-255-7828, use the Allstate mobile app, or file online at allstate.com. Have ready:

  • Your Allstate policy number
  • Date, time, and location of the accident
  • The other driver’s information if applicable
  • Photos of all vehicle damage

Allstate will assign a claim number and an adjuster. The adjuster may direct you to a Good Hands shop — you are not required to use one.

Step 2 — Your Rights Under California Law

California Insurance Code is clear on this point. Allstate cannot:

  • Require you to use a Good Hands Repair Network shop as a condition of your claim
  • Refuse to pay for repairs because you chose an independent shop
  • Pay less than the reasonable market cost of repairs because you didn’t use their preferred network

If an Allstate representative implies you have no choice, that is inaccurate. You have the legal right to bring your vehicle to any licensed shop in California — including EV Central.

Step 3 — Bring Your Vehicle to EV Central

Tell your Allstate adjuster you’ll be taking your vehicle to EV Central at 718 Bryant St, San Francisco. We handle Allstate claims for all makes and models — EVs, hybrids, and gas vehicles. We manage the entire claims process on your behalf, from the initial estimate through repair approval and final pickup.

Step 4 — Estimate, Approval, and Repairs

Allstate will send an appraiser or ask us to provide a written estimate. We document all damage in detail and submit directly to Allstate. If there’s a difference between their appraiser’s figure and our estimate, we work it out with the adjuster — you won’t be caught in the middle. Any additional damage found during teardown is submitted as a supplement before we proceed.

Step 5 — Pickup

When repairs are complete, you pay your deductible at pickup. Allstate pays us the remainder. No runaround, no paperwork on your end.

What Allstate Covers That Often Goes Unclaimed

  • Rental reimbursement — if your policy includes rental coverage, Allstate pays for a rental while your car is in the shop
  • OEM parts — Allstate typically uses non-OEM parts unless your policy specifies otherwise; request OEM upfront if it matters for your vehicle
  • Diminished value — California law gives you the right to claim the loss in your vehicle’s resale value after a collision repair; Allstate doesn’t advertise this, but it’s your legal right
  • Towing — covered if you carry roadside assistance on your Allstate policy
