How to File an Amica Auto Insurance Claim in the SF Bay Area
By EV Central • OCTOBER 15, 2026
What Does Amica Auto Insurance Cover?
Amica offers standard auto insurance coverage that includes:
- Collision coverage — repairs to your vehicle after a crash, no matter who’s at fault
- Comprehensive coverage — damage from theft, vandalism, weather, and non-collision events
- Rental reimbursement — a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired
- OEM parts — depending on your policy, Amica may cover original equipment manufacturer parts, especially for newer vehicles
- Towing and roadside assistance — available as an add-on
Amica also offers an optional glass coverage rider and strong liability limits, making them a solid choice for Bay Area drivers.
California Law: You Always Have the Right to Choose Your Shop
Here’s something every California driver should know — your insurer cannot legally require you to use a specific repair shop.
Under California Insurance Code §758.5, your insurance company can suggest their preferred or Direct Repair Program (DRP) shops, but they cannot:
- Refuse to pay for repairs at a shop you choose
- Pressure you into using their network shops
- Reduce your claim simply because you went elsewhere
This applies to Amica — and every other insurer doing business in California.
Amica may have preferred shop partners, but you are never obligated to use them. If you have a shop you trust, you’re free to take your car there.
How to File a Claim With Amica in the SF Bay Area
Filing with Amica is straightforward. Here’s how it works:
- Report the accident — Call Amica at 1-800-242-6422 or file online through their website or mobile app as soon as possible after the incident
- Get a claim number — You’ll receive a claim number and be assigned an adjuster
- Choose your repair shop — Select any licensed body shop in the Bay Area, including EV Central at 718 Bryant St in San Francisco
- Schedule your inspection — Amica may send an adjuster to inspect the damage, or they may work directly with your shop through photos and estimates
- Approve the estimate — Once Amica approves the repair estimate, work can begin
- Pick up your vehicle — After repairs are complete, Amica pays the shop directly (minus your deductible)
One tip: let your shop know you’re with Amica early on. Experienced shops handle insurer communication regularly and can help keep the process moving.
